State Rep. Angela Rigas | Michigan House Republicans
Rep. Angela Rigas has responded to remarks made by Attorney General Dana Nessel following Governor Gretchen Whitmer's recent State of the State address. The attorney general criticized the governor's appeal for bipartisanship, arguing against normalizing relations with the Trump Administration. Nessel described President Trump as a "wannabe petty dictator who fashions himself to be a king" and "a threat to Michigan."
Rigas commented on Nessel's statements, saying, "The attorney general’s comments felt very out of place, especially considering the past several years." She further accused Nessel of having used government power against business owners during COVID-19 and indicting political opponents before elections. Rigas asserted that Republicans are not a threat but implied that someone else might be.
As chair of the Subcommittee on Weaponization of State Government under the Michigan House Oversight Committee, Rigas announced last week a new tip line for residents to report government abuses. She expressed concern over Nessel's rhetoric: "We need to be able to reach across the aisle on key issues that matter to all our constituents. It’s concerning that she seems only interested in utilizing her position to wage war with the White House, rather than working together where we can."
Rigas also conveyed skepticism about Governor Whitmer's calls for bipartisan efforts but expressed hope for genuine cooperation on public issues. She stated, "We want to get things done for our residents," while criticizing what she perceives as an unstable division within the Democratic Party.
