State Representative Angela Rigas of Caledonia has cast a significant vote supporting the Trump Administration's initiative to return control of education to state governments. House Resolution 55 expresses support for ending what is described as federal overreach by the Department of Education and encourages Congress to collaborate with the administration in transferring more control back to the states.

Rigas emphasized, "The Tenth Amendment speaks for itself. Powers not specifically named to the federal government, or prohibited to the states, belong to the states. Local educators know far more about our kids and what they need than career bureaucrats in D.C. ever will."

President Trump has advocated for closing the Department of Education entirely, suggesting that key services such as special education programs and loans could be managed by other federal departments like Health and Human Services or Treasury. Rigas aligns with this view, supporting a shift that would place educational oversight under Michigan's jurisdiction.

"We’re sick and tired of pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into this department, and we’ve only seen our test scores decline," Rigas stated. "The department spent $268 billion last year, and to what end? Overseeing the education of our children is a state’s right, and the states spoke their mind when we elected President Trump and Republicans in a landslide last November. The states want change and an end to this federal overreach plaguing our country."

The resolution was passed by the Michigan House of Representatives on Thursday afternoon. For further details, Rep. Angela Rigas can be contacted at (517) 373-1403 or via email at [email protected].
