State Rep. Angela Rigas | Michigan House Republicans
State Representative Angela Rigas from Caledonia has announced her support for HR 14, a resolution aimed at increasing transparency in Michigan's budget process. The measure seeks to address issues related to government spending and is part of a broader effort by House Republicans to reform the state's budgeting system.
Rigas stated, "Michigan families work hard for every dollar they earn, yet they’re footing the bill for a bloated state budget riddled with backroom deals and unchecked earmarks. Taxpayers deserve to know exactly where their money is going, and HR 14 will ensure every dollar is spent with accountability and purpose."
HR 14 proposes full transparency in earmarked spending, prohibits funds from being allocated to for-profit businesses, and demands higher standards from non-profits. It also aims to eliminate conflicts of interest by requiring comprehensive documentation and thorough review of all spending requests.
The resolution comes after recent controversies involving the state budget process. In 2022, an ally of Governor Gretchen Whitmer received a $20 million earmark, which was later used for various expenses including a $4,500 coffee maker and an $11,000 first-class international plane ticket.
"This kind of reckless spending is exactly why Michigan needs bold, conservative leadership to fix our budget," Rigas added. "We’re putting an end to waste, abuse, and political favoritism—taxpayers will finally be put first."
House Republicans continue their commitment to restoring trust in the budgeting process and prioritizing Michigan's families over political insiders.
