City will be resurfacing Gee Dr. from Alden Nash Rd. to Foreman St.

The City will be resurfacing Gee Dr. from Alden Nash Rd. to Foreman St. over the next week. The work is set to begin on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.  The work includes the milling and removal of the top 2+ inches of old pavement, repairing the remaining asphalt (filling cracks, repairing excavated areas, etc.), placing a construction fabric, and repaving of the street.  When completed, the driving surface will have been replaced.  This is the last scheduled street paving project for 2022.

The City has received funding for this project through the State of Michigan (MDOT) that will cover approximately 80% of the total construction cost of approximately $273,500. While there are several other streets within the City of Lowell that could use resurfacing, these funds can only be used on a select few Lowell streets.  Gee Dr. is one of those streets.

The work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 2nd with the placement of construction signs.  Thursday the contractor will be working on the street surface, and on Friday, November 4th they will be milling off the top layer of asphalt.  The milling work will leave the street dusty and rough, but it will be drivable.

On Monday, November 7th the contractor will start making the repairs and sealing the cracks.  Their goal is to perform the paving work on Wednesday and Thursday (November 9 & 10).  Once the street is repaved the contractor will need to install pavement markings and provide restoration and clean-up work.  The project is scheduled to be completed by November 15th.

ALL THIS WORK IS WEATHER DEPENDENT!

Rain or other inclement weather might push the schedule back.
