City of East Grand Rapids issued the following announcement on Mar 24.
Whether you’re traveling during spring break or enjoying a staycation, there are several things to keep in mind.
Set Yourself Up for Success
As you would prepare for vacation, make sure you’re aware of what will be expected when you travel out of Michigan. For example, some locations require negative COVID-19 tests or vaccination documentation. Check with the location you are visiting as well as ground transportation. You can read spring break tips from the Ford Airport on its website.
Lock Up
Before leaving town, make sure to secure your car, garage and exterior home doors. Leaving a light on or setting timers may also deter theft.
It’s wise to let a friend, family member or neighbor know when you plan to travel so they can keep an eye on your home while you’re away.
Public Safety also encourages those traveling to fill out an Unattended Home Form, which provides our officers with your emergency contact information in case something happens.
Stay Alert
Unfortunately, there will always be those who take advantage of others. Remember that government agencies, including the CDC, Secretary of State, IRS and health departments, will never ask for identifying information via text or phone call.
Public Safety advises against sharing photos and/or details of your vacation on social media while still away from home.
Support Local Businesses
If you plan to stay home during spring break, please consider shopping and dining local as you look for fun things to do. Gaslight Village is a great destination for the entire family to shop and enjoy a meal together.
Parks & Recreation also has great opportunities for the whole family to stay active and entertained during spring break. Learn more and register for classes at eastgr.org/recreation.
