City of Wyoming recently issued the following announcement.
FEBRUARY 10 UPDATE:
The victim of this senseless homicide is identified as 2-year-old, Khalise Parks. The suspect is a relative of Khalise. He remains hospitalized with what we believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He is expected to survive and remains under police guard. He will likely be arraigned on February 11, and we will not release his name until after arraignment. Detectives are continuing to investigate and will be conferring with the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office on charges against the suspect.
WYOMING DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY - OFFICIAL MEDIA RELEASE:
At approximately 6:20 PM on February 9, Wyoming Police and Fire responded to a residence in the 2400 block of Meyer Avenue SW on a report of gunfire within the residence. When officers arrived, they found that a child had been fatally struck by a round fired from within the home. They also discovered an adult male inside the residence who had sustained a gunshot wound. The male was transported to a local hospital and is under police guard. He is expected to survive. The weapon involved in this incident
has been recovered.
Wyoming Detectives responded to the scene and are in the early stages of their investigation. Initial indications are that all individuals involved in this incident have been located and there is no danger to the public. The motive for this tragic loss of life is still unclear and other details related to this incident are not being released at this time in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
