Kentwood Public Schools issued the following announcement on Jan 19.
Fatima Munye was selected as Davenport University's 2022 Inherit the Dream scholarship winner. Fatima is a senior at East Kentwood High school and plans to study Biological Laboratory Sciences when she begins her studies at DU this fall. In her scholarship application, Fatima explains how Dr. King has inspired her to be an ethical leader and stand up for what’s right – not only when it comes to herself but also for her peers.
She writes, “King and other leaders generated momentous strides for equality, yet the push for civil rights remains a preeminent challenge today”. Fatima has demonstrated her commitment to justice and service to the community through her participation in Black Lives Matter as well as her involvement in East Kentwood High School’s Black Student Union and Muslim Student Association.
At Davenport, she plans to continue her advocacy both in and out of the classroom. Ultimately she dreams of becoming a pediatric endocrinologist to help create more equitable health outcomes for children. Congratulations, Fatima.
