Kentwood Public Schools issued the following announcement on Nov 9.
Thirty teams competed at the middle school robotics competition was held at East Kentwood Freshman Campus on Saturday 11/6. Kentwood Public School’s five Red Storm FIRST Tech Challenge robotics teams had a great day.
Red Storm Green 20033 had a fun first competition. This all-rookie 6th and 7th grade team were decked out in magician capes, top hats and magic wands. They showed gracious professionalism all day, and a couple of team members were even interviewed by the press!
Red Storm Gray 17283, our other all-rookie 6th and 7th grade team, shared their team spirit by distributing a dozen handmade shark awards to other teams throughout our competition. They also had a team member interviewed by the press!
Red Storm Blue 10031 placed well in the qualifiers (#12) which was no small task given the competition on the field. They also received the Promote Award for their video submission on "If I could tell my younger self one thing about FIRST Robotics, it would be..." as well as winning the Motivate Award.
Red Storm Red 6482 qualified to compete at the state competition, which is so exciting! They earned the 2nd place Control Award, the 3rd place Think Award, and the 3rd place Inspire Award (Inspire is the highest award in FIRST Tech Challenge).
Red Storm White 5292 will be joining the Red team in December, as they also qualified to compete at the state competition! The Bot Tart crew won the 2nd place Motivate Award and the Connect Award. They also nominated their amazing mentor Andy Tomaszewski for the Compass Award, and he received 2nd place. Congratulations to the most experienced White Team!
We're proud of how our teams performed on and off the field, proud of all the gracious professionalism we saw, and proud of how we hosted the event. Terrific work!
