In honor of National School Board Recognition Month, we will have a series highlighting each of our district's School Board Members! We asked them all three questions: 1. How long have you been a member at Godfrey-Lee? 2. Why are you a board member? 3. What are you most proud of regarding our district and schools?
First up is our board member, Josephine (commonly known as Jo-C) Coleman. Jo-C has been a board member since May 2018 and is going on 5 years.
2. Why are you a board member?"Since my children started attending GLPS in 1997, I have volunteered my time and committed myself to numerous parent groups. I wanted to ensure that all children, not just my own, had the things they needed to participate and have a fair, safe and healthy way to enjoy school. When children are happy, healthy and safe, they learn. When my children graduated, that allowed me more time to dedicate to the highest level of the school community to impact certain areas/groups and all students and staff.
3. What are you most proud of regarding our district and schools?"GLPS is such a unique 1 square mile famiLEE. Everyone knows everyone, and we all love and parent all our kids, no matter what. "It takes a village..." We are "the village." Our diverse community means that although we are small, we live in a place that is somewhat equal to the world. That gives our students an upper hand when they graduate and head out into the world. They are respectful, mindful, caring, responsible, hardworking and take nothing for granted. The students' families work hard and their commitment to family shows in their children. It is very heartwarming and a pleasure to serve my community.
