Forest Hills Public Schools issued the following announcement on Jan 14.
This week, the Kent County Health Department released a new Public Health Order to replace their August 6, 2021 order. The new Public Health Order is specific to school settings and differs from guidance provided to the general public. Following is a summary of the new public health order:
Students who test positive for COVID-19:
>Students in K-6 buildings must stay home and isolate for 5 days. Students may return to school on days 6-10 if their symptoms have subsided and they have been fever free for 24 hours without medication. However, students must consistently wear an appropriate and well-fitting mask at all times at school for days 6-10. Students who are not able to mask must follow the 10 day isolation period.
>7-12 students and staff and 6th grade students and staff at EMS must isolate at home for 10 days
The difference in rules from elementary to secondary positive students and staff is only possible due to universal continued masking at the K-6 level in Forest Hills. The new order affords schools and families additional flexibility in buildings where all individuals are properly masked.
If someone in your household tests positive for COVID-19:
>Students who are vaccinated may continue to attend school and should monitor for symptoms. Your student must consistently wear an appropriate well-fitting mask, while at school, throughout the duration of the household case’s isolation period plus an additional 10 days.
>Students who are unvaccinated should quarantine at home for 10 days. They can return to school on the 11th day, provided they are symptom-free and consistently wear an appropriate and well-fitting mask for 5 days. If they are unable to wear a mask, they must quarantine at home for a total of 15 days.
This order is effective from now until the end of the 2021-2022 school year, unless another order replaces it in the future. Please keep in mind that this is only a summary of the new Public Health Order. The full order can be found here: https://www.accesskent.com/.../covid19-prevention-in...
The new order provides an opportunity for students to return to school sooner and reflects the latest guidance from both the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work to keep students and staff members healthy, safe, and learning in schools everyday.
With appreciation,
Dan Behm
Superintendent
