The city of Albion has received $250,000 in funding for roads through the Community Service Infrastructure Fund program, Sen. John Bizon (R-Battle Creek) said.

“This money will enable Albion to start on some critical road projects right away,” Bizon said, according to MiSenateGOP. “Fixing these roads will benefit everyone in the community.”

The $250,000 road grant will help fund a $778,000 project that is intended to repair First Street, Second Street, Third Street, Hartwell Street and Wild Street The remaining funding for the project will come from the state of Michigan.

Twenty-three villages and cities in Michigan will also be receiving funding from the Michigan Department of Transportation's Community Service Infrastructure Fund. This fund, which was established in 2018, helps pay for road projects in small communities with its stopgap program.

This year's projects were chosen based on how they paired with infrastructure work that had already been planned. These projects are coordinated with road agencies and "focused on extending the useful life of the road," according to MiSenateGOP.

The Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF), established in 1987, also helps fund highway, road and street projects in Michigan. The program finances those projects that are critical to "the movement of people and products" for jobs, manufacturing and getting finished goods to customers.

TEDF will provide $3 million year year through fiscal year 2023 for road improvements, according to MiSenateGOP. Villages and cities will be funded through the Community Service Infrastructure Fund grants program.

More information about road grants can be found at the Michigan Department of Transportation Website
