Michigan's Hillsdale College is offering a free online course, “The Great American Story: A Land of Hope,” which began in February.
The college says the American history course will teach “the true history of America as a land of hope founded on high principles,” and be "free of liberal bias," according to Bruce Walker of The Center Square.
Hillsdale President Larry P. Arnn and University of Oklahoma professor Wilfred M. McClay will teach the course. McClay is author of “Land of Hope: An Invitation to the Great American Story," which the course is based upon.
Hillsdale’s description of the course says it will cover “great achievements and cherished memories of America’s past, as well as important shortcomings and failings" and "reveals timeless lessons about human nature,” as reported by The Center Square.
Arnn said in a statement reported by The Center Square that, in comparison, The New York Times’ ongoing 1619 Project is “an ideological campaign to undermine Americans’ attachment to our founding principles and to the Constitution by making slavery, rather than the principles of liberty that ended slavery and preserved our liberties for nearly 250 years, the principal focus of American history.”
